Superior Protection That Doesn't Compromise Mobility
Gun violence remains a persistent threat across America. Recent events have shown that even previously safe areas can experience unprecedented levels of violence. Preparing to protect yourself and your family means having access to the most reliable protection available.
MIRA® Tactical Level IV plates represent the pinnacle of ballistic protection technology. Unlike budget armor solutions that limit you to Level IIIA, III, or III+ protection, these Level IV plates provide comprehensive defense against armor-piercing threats while maintaining exceptional mobility.
The key to our Level IV armor's performance lies in its advanced material construction and precision engineering. The combination of ceramic and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) delivers both lightweight characteristics and multi-hit capability against the most challenging ballistic threats.
After precision manufacturing, each plate is shaped to standard dimensions with a shooter's cut configuration for improved comfort and weapon handling. Extensive testing demonstrates the plate's ability to defeat multiple armor-piercing rounds across various calibers and velocities.
The result is a sub-8-pound plate less than an inch thick that can stop multiple high-velocity armor-piercing rifle rounds. Unlike traditional steel and ceramic Level IV offerings that can weigh 8-13+ pounds, MIRA® Tactical Level IV plates won't compromise your mobility or cause long-term physical strain.
MIRA Safety® is proud to offer these Level IV plates to law enforcement, military personnel, security contractors, and qualified US civilians.
Storage Guidelines
UHMWPE plates must not be exposed to temperatures higher than 150°F for prolonged periods. Extended exposure to extreme heat can potentially compromise the plate's integrity and reduce protective capabilities. Store your armor in a cool, dry, dark place away from high heat sources.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Level IV protection special?
Body armor standards are established by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Level IV represents the highest standard protection level, designed to defeat armor-piercing rifle threats that can penetrate lower-level armor. MIRA® Tactical Level IV plates provide this elite protection while maintaining a lightweight 7.7 lb profile with multi-curve comfort and shooter's cut mobility.
What is the difference between Ballistic UHMWPE and Commercial UHMWPE?
Ballistic-grade UHMWPE offers superior protection through higher areal density and modulus compared to commercial grades. Areal density indicates energy absorption capability, while modulus measures fabric stretch resistance. Ballistic UHMWPE provides low backface deformation, superior rigidity, and increased survivability compared to commercial versions used in industrial applications.
Why are armor plates sold separately?
Armor plates allow users to customize protection based on specific needs while maintaining mobility. Plate carrier systems enable quick swapping of armor configurations for different threat environments, making them preferred by military and law enforcement professionals.
Is modern body armor still heavy and awkward?
Traditional steel and ceramic armor could exceed 10+ pounds per plate. Advanced composite materials reduce weight to 7.7 pounds while providing superior protection. This weight is manageable for daily carry in backpacks or plate carriers.
Can I trust advanced composite armor?
The US military and law enforcement agencies worldwide rely on advanced composite armor systems. Thousands of lives have been saved by these technologies. The materials and construction methods have been extensively proven in real-world applications.
Who can purchase body armor?
Anyone without a violent felony conviction can purchase ballistic body armor. However, Connecticut and New York prohibit online purchases with direct shipping.
What does "Stand Alone" mean?
Stand-alone plates provide the stated protection level independently, without requiring additional soft armor backing. This contrasts with "ICW" (In Conjunction With) plates that must be combined with other armor to achieve their rated protection level.
What is NIJ certification?
NIJ Certified Body Armor refers to protective gear tested and certified by the National Institute of Justice to meet specific performance standards. The certification process involves rigorous testing and ongoing compliance checks, ensuring reliable protection against various ballistic threats.
NIJ protection levels include:
-
Level IIA: Lower velocity 9mm and .40 S&W rounds
-
Level II: Higher velocity 9mm and .357 Magnum rounds
-
Level IIIA: High velocity 9mm and .44 Magnum rounds
-
Level III: Rifle rounds such as 7.62mm FMJ
-
Level IV: Armor-piercing rifle rounds
Do body armor plates have a lifespan?
These ballistic plates do not have a predetermined expiration date. Armor should be replaced if damaged or showing signs of wear that could compromise protection capability.
